In the village of Kudriashivka, Luhansk region, on September 29, 2021, an educational lecture was held for the population on the topic: "Diabetes mellitus in the era of the COVID-19 pandemic", which was prepared by Olha Salamadze, an assistant at the Department of Internal Medicine No. 2.
Patients with diabetes are known to be at high risk of infection and more severe COVID-19. Diabetes mellitus is a risk factor for severe pneumonia, acute respiratory distress syndrome, infectious-toxic shock with the development of multiple organ failure, increased risk of thromboembolic complications, acute respiratory failure and death.
Taking into account the clinical features of COVID-19, patients with diabetes require a number of treatment and prevention measures for timely hospitalization and further monitoring of the disease, which Olha Salamadze, the employee of the Department of Internal Medicine No. 2, described in detail.
The lecture also emphasized that patients with diabetes need to maintain optimal glycemic control, more frequent monitoring of blood glucose levels and timely correction of antihyperglycemic therapy with insulin. The use of specific antiviral drug therapy also changes the glycemic profile, which requires additional monitoring by a physician.
In general, patients with endocrine diseases need additional dynamic control, informational notification by narrow specialists.
