The history of the Department of Drug Technology, Organization and Economics of Pharmacy of the State Establishment «Luhansk State Medical University» began in 2001. It was then that the Faculty of Pharmacy was created, and with it the specialized department that provided teaching of special technological and economic disciplines.
The original name of the department is — «Department of Management, Economics, Marketing and Drug Technology». It was headed by Oleksandr Pavlovich Gudzenko, Doctor of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Professor, General Director of the Luhansk Regional Communal Production Enterprise «Pharmacy» — The department included young and energetic assistants: N. Benyukh, N. Kucherenko, E. Perederii, O. Nematykh, O. Gondel and V. Karpenko.
Thanks to the support of KP «Lugansk Regional «Pharmacy», a specialized building — «Pharmacy-studio» was built on the territory of the university, which combined a functioning pharmacy with the educational premises of the department. The second floor housed a computer classroom, a research lab, and faculty offices.
In 2002, the department received the modern name — «Department of Drug Technology, Organization and Economics of Pharmacy». During 2001–2014, the staff of the department created a powerful material and technical base that ensured a high level of educational, scientific and practical activities.
Relocation period
Events in 2014 related to the occupation of. Luhansk, forced the university to move its activities to the Ukrainian-controlled territory of — in Rubizhne, Lugansk region. The department received new premises in the educational and administrative building of the university at the address: Rubizhne, Budivelnykiv Street, 32.
To ensure the continuity of the educational process, a cooperation agreement was concluded between the university and KP «Lugansk Regional “Pharmacy- North”». Thanks to this cooperation, the department had the opportunity to use the material and technical base of the Central City Pharmacy №47 m. Frontier for conducting practical classes.
With the support of the National Pharmaceutical University ( Kharkiv) the library fund of the — department was restored in both printed and electronic formats. The department equipped classrooms, a drug technology laboratory and a computer classroom.
In the 2016–2017 academic year, the department was temporarily called the «Department of Drug Technology, Organization and Economics of Pharmacy with Pharmacology», providing teaching disciplines for students of the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy, including «Clinical Pharmacology» and «Clinical Pharmacy».
Since 2018, the department has returned to its historical name. It taught educational components of technological, organizational and economic direction for full-time and part-time students of the Faculty of Pharmacy.
Scientific and educational activity
The department actively conducts postgraduate training of pharmacy specialists, organizing cycles of internships and professional development in the following specialties:
«Organization and management of pharmacy»;
«General pharmacy».
Under the guidance of Professor O. Gudzenko department continued training of scientific personnel. In 2020, assistant O. Oksenyuk defended her candidate's thesis — first after the relocation of the department.
In 2021, the educational program 226 «Pharmacy, industrial pharmacy» successfully passed accreditation at the second (master's) level, the guarantor of the educational program — is professor Oleksandr Gudzenko. Since 2022, Oksana Oksenyuk, associate professor of the department, has become the guarantor of the educational program.
Today
After further relocation of the university to Rivne, on the basis of the Faculty of Pharmacy, the Department of Pharmacy was formed by merging three specialized departments:
departments of drug technology, organization and economics of pharmacy;
Departments of pharmaceutical chemistry and pharmacognosy;
departments of industrial pharmacy.
After the reorganization, the department was headed by associate professor Vyacheslav Tkachenko, who continued the traditions of his predecessors, paying considerable attention to the development of the educational process, improving the practical training of students and strengthening ties with pharmaceutical enterprises.
However, the university does not stand still, is dynamically developing and adapting to modern educational and scientific challenges. In the context of updating the structure of the Faculty of Pharmacy and improving the management of the educational process, the department was renamed the «Department of Pharmacy, Management and Administration».
Currently, the department is headed by Kseniia Shemiakina, who continues to develop educational, scientific and methodical activities, provides training for competitive specialists in the pharmaceutical sector and implements modern approaches to management in the health care system.
